BEFORE ENROLLING IN FITTING ESSENTIALS
◾️ You are an alumni member of the In-House Patterns Studio course "Fitting Essentials: How to Make Sewing Patterns Fit You" and can commit and be fully present for the course for the entire 8 week period and will strive to complete the course within those 8 weeks.
◾️ You consider yourself an intermediate to advanced sewer who can follow general sewing directions from a garment assembly guide sheet.
◾️ You enjoy online learning, are comfortable with pdf patterns/resources and can give full attention to pre-recorded video lessons and/or live session recordings as well as apply and execute the lessons based on your personal fitting needs.
◾️ You understand that this is not a one-to-one fitting course where you'll get an individual fit assessment from Alexandra but you will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive guidance on your work by interacting with the community and the virtual live session trainings that are offered each week.
◾️ You're excited to share your personal pant fitting experience of the course with others by sharing images of your progress inside the community group. (Alexandra will be seeking your permission to share these progress images in later versions of the course content and marketing materials.)
If you can place a mental checkmark next to all of these points, you are a "perfect fit" for the Pant Fitting Foundations course.
If you hesitate on any of these points, please consider the course again at a later date. The next session is likely just around the corner and may be at a more suitable or convenient time for you.
In short, YES.
I have specifically designed this pattern in a way that will help you achieve the best possible fit using the principles and methods I teach inside the course. Without the special features that I've incorporated in the pattern, you will likely struggle more than you need to.
However, once you understand the methods and processes of making a pattern fit you as I show inside the course, you will definitely be able to apply the principles to other sewing patterns without these special features. Following along with the Cordelia sewing pattern will help you learn HOW to fit. Once you have internalized the process you can apply it to any pattern you choose.
That being said, I realize that the gender and sizing may not include everyone, so what I suggest is that you use this project as a learning tool and perhaps follow through with the course lessons while making the garment for a friend or family member. While this isn't the most optimal solution for learning how to "fit yourself" I know from experience that learning how to fit on another person is just as valuable and gives you even greater insight into assessing fit.
Pant Fitting Foundations is a very comprehensive course and I don't want you to be overwhelmed by all the content I have to share.
The course modules will be posted one or two per week for the first 6 weeks and I'll spend an additional 2 weeks with you inside the Pant Fitting Foundations Community group. I deliver it this way so I can walk you through each of the modules and provide help and guidance along the way.
That being said, once all the modules are delivered, you will have lifetime access to the course and be able to watch and re-watch the videos as many times as you like.
I've got a welcome message waiting for you inside that will tell you exactly what you'll need to do before the first module drops.
The Pant Fitting Foundations Community Group is an exclusive and private group for course members only. The group is housed on the In-House Patterns website and does not use any aspect of Facebook.
This community is where you will interact with your fellow coursemates. I encourage you to share your advice, questions, photos and insights about the course content with each other so that you can make the most of the knowledge and experience that will be represented there.
It is also the place where I will communicate with you and share the information about our Live weekly Q&A sessions. Each week I will allow you to post questions about the course so that I can clarify and guide you. I will do a LIVE Q&A Session twice a week for 8 weeks.
All Q&A sessions will be recorded so even if you can't attend live, you can still get your questions answered and benefit from all the information I'll share.
This course is going to show you HOW to fit, by yourself, from start to finish. It's the complete process I have used successfully to fit my own garments and one I've been developing over the last 10 years while working with experienced home sewists like you.
You'll learn how to analyze your figure, the sizing and the pattern itself so that you can replicate the style and silhouette of the pattern on your body. You'll then perform the initial pattern adjustments virtually everyone needs to align the pattern to your body measurements and proportions before you even make a sample. I'll show you how to check and refine your pattern so that you can stitch up a fitting sample quickly and easily.
I'll show you how to prepare your sample for a fitting session in a way that will make assessing the fit straightforward and do-able without the help of a fitting buddy. We'll discuss how to assess fit using balance lines so you don't have to rely solely on understanding the wrinkle language.
I'll also show you how to take your fitting changes back to your pattern and work through the potential fitting issues that you may encounter. This course will give you the confidence and skills to recognize, assess and solve your own fitting issues with a straightforward process you can use on any sewing project.
You'll find that the differences are profound.
