Pattern Design Project: BRIA Part 1

'Tis the season for cozy evenings, indoor projects and handmade gifts so let's make your evenings extra cozy, your indoor projects extra fun and your gifts extra special by creating made to measure lounge pants for you, your friends and your family.

New PJ's or lounge pants are always a special treat, especially if they are made to measure in the prints and fabrics you love. They also happen to be a great pattern design project for budding pattern makers because they are easy to draft, forgiving on fit, and quick to sew.

Watch the video with the drafting instructions in hand, I'll share some guidance on what you'll need to get started and show you the best way to proceed to make the draft go quickly and easily.

If this project sounds perfect for gift giving, I’ve got you covered with a women's standard body measurement size chart that will have you making these for everyone you know. Just use these measurements for the draft calculations.

You can use your elementary school knowledge of math sequences to calculate the in-between sizes or see my detailed size chart for my In-House Patterns Fitting Essentials sewing patterns HERE. 

For those of you who are eager to get started and you’re feeling really confident, I encourage you to try the draft on your own but don’t jump ahead too far because I’ve got some pretty important details to share in the next video that you won’t want to miss.

While you wait for the next lesson to drop I invite you to dive into your sewing stash. Look for 1” (25mm) elastic and  some soft and drapey fabric in either a woven or a knit. You might also want to take a look through your sewing patterns for a basic T-shirt pattern if you want to make a full PJ set. If you can’t find one, the In-House Patterns Jenny Tee would be a perfect companion.
